McHenry County College student Amanda Appner speaks during a Sept. 11 remembrance ceremony. The college hosted the 10th anniversary event at the Peace Pole near the cafeteria of its Crystal Lake campus. Close to 3000 flags were planted by students, each one representing a casualty of the attack. During the program, criminal justice professor and former McHenry police chief Bill Brogan spoke to the audience. Campus Christian Fellowship adviser Tim Mengler led the crowd in prayer.
