Dorita Hannah (Designer) and Carol Brown (Choreographer) Tongues of Stone A Dancing City Event (Perth, April 2011) This site-sensitive performance -- combining movement, architecture and sound -- mines sedimented stories in the city of Perth to reveal hidden and forgotten parts to passers-by. It is created for a mobile public who either happen upon the event or listen to a soundscape of multiple voices that intersect with local and universal stories. A woman who has lost her tongue struggles to communicate with her newly wed sister; another reads the city's geography with her body, finding it both foreign and familiar; a chorus of water-bearers remember and trace tributaries of ancient wetlands; and a band of furies play their bodies like angry instruments against the concrete facades. Through interventions of design elements and gesturing bodies, familiar sites are rendered spectacular and the city's architecture is rediscovered anew.
